First rave review for "Fallen Angel #1"

Book's not out yet, but I thought I would pass on to you folks this review brought to my attention by Chris Ryall at IDW:

Gee, this was a completely unexpected honor. My ghast is flabbered, in a joyous way.

The direct link to the review is

Because, as I post more stuff, my Fallen Angel review will sink lower and lower. I doubt people will be checking for my thoughts about non-Peter David related projects.

Good look!

That should be good LUCK, not look.

I really need to remember to not post when I am not wearing my reading glasses, like now.

Is there a way to direct order the comic?

Posted by: Kelly Hoose at November 11, 2005 12:20 PM

Kewl, but here's the "problem":

Enter IDW, which offered the creator owned book a new home

Project Propsals
IDW Publishing is not accepting submissions for this position at this time.

Is this a catch 22?

Damn, PAD. I can't wait to get my hands on this new first issue.

Posted by: Jason M. Bryant at November 11, 2005 05:47 PM

I shouldn't post late at night. I end up asking stupid questions far too often. Anyway, I easily found where to order the books:

http://store.idwpublishing.com/product_info.php?products_id=518&osCsid=b0e8d62cfbdf470dbed3ce7dd37d7b47

Only question is, what comes with a subscription? Does my $27 get me 12 issues? That sounds right, but I don't like to guess.

Kelly, I'm not sure what your point is. There is no "Catch-22" here. As I recall, PAD didn't seek out IDW as the new home for "Fallen Angel" (i.e., he didn't "submit" any proposal). He was offered (as you noted) a new home for the book.
As for IDW's not accepting submissions for new proposals, that's hardly unique to IDW. Most publishers don't accept "new proposals" for any project beyond a few times during the year (if then). This largely alleviates the problem of "I submitted an idea just like that one that [fill in writer's name] is doing". IDW very easily could (and, very likely, will) accept new proposals at a later date, but not right now.

I don't know if you saw the review on Bags and Boards, but they also reviewed it highly.

You can check it out here:

I am definitely looking forward to it. Thanks!

Hey, I just wanted to post a link & quick comment here about an interview with good ol' PAD on the UncannyXMen.Net site.

It's a good interview but (oh boy, this ties in with the other thread about authors on the internet) that last answer "sounds" a little condescending. *hides*

Btw, I just went through the whole House of M (the main mini) last night, and I found it to be alright, overall, but I'm a bit disappointed by *SPOILER* how much they restricted themselves with the number of remaining mutants by saying there are exactly 198.

That, and I have to wonder how long this will last because, well, let's face it, Marvel hasn't exactly had a sterling track record of letting the "big events" stick.

And I really wish the damn Preview button would work. :P

Oh, farking hell, my attempt to change the text color for the spoiler didn't work.

*sigh* Why does HTML suck so badly?

"It's a good interview but (oh boy, this ties in with the other thread about authors on the internet) that last answer "sounds" a little condescending. *hides*"

Well, we'll just have to chalk that one up to the limitations of the soundlessness of the internet, because it sure wasn't intended to be condescending.

"That, and I have to wonder how long this will last because, well, let's face it, Marvel hasn't exactly had a sterling track record of letting the "big events" stick."

With the implication being that DC does? Lessee: DC big events--got rid of the multiverse, the JSA, Kara Zor-El, the Flash, and Hal Jordan as Green Lantern, and subsequently introduced Hypertime, brought back the JSA, re-introduced Kara Zor-El, brought in a new Flash, and brought Hal Jordan back as Green Lantern.

The last time I read anything from DC was when Superman temporarily bit the big one.

So, that should tell you something about how well I keep track of what DC does. :)

Speaking of publishers not letting the big changes stick... :)

The February solicitations mention this:
FALLEN ANGEL #3 (OF 5)

Is the intention that FA will be a series of miniseries this time around?

Posted by: Luke K. Walsh at November 19, 2005 12:52 PM

After a few people raised similar concerns, PAD explained - on the "Fallen Angel Promo at Wizard World Texas" thread - that IDW likes to essentially hedge their bets by starting projects with a mini-series. He also mentioned that orders for FA have looked VERY good so far... :)
