I’m Super, thanks for asking

Just finished the script for Supergirl #74. Didn’t have an easy time of it. See, we have a major new storyline that starts with #75, and it had been my intention to wrap up the current storyline in #75 and segue into the next one in the selfsame issue…kind of like what I did in #50. But I was told that the best way to launch the new storyline in #75 was to make it as clean a break as possible, and so I had to compress the story I’d planned for 73-75 into two issues, 73-74. I had a ton of elements to deal with, and it took me most of a week to wrestle the script to the ground.

That’s an inherent difficulty with the way I tell lengthy stories. Usually when the resolution arrives, no matter how meticulously and over however many months I set it up, the methodical nature of my plotting prompts people to say that so much happened in the concluding chapters that they think the story is rushed. Well, boy, I’ll be interested to see what they think of #74, considering how many story elements I pack in and resolve over the course of 22 pages.

Still, the decks are now cleared for #75, which will launch a major new, and highly demanded, storyline. Leonard Kirk’s last issue is #74, and hopefully he’ll be going out with a bang. And we do indeed have the new artist lined up starting with #75, but I can’t make that announcement yet. Soon, ideally. Hope to see you all there.

  1. Can’t really think of any highly demanded storylines except the return of someone special. Anyone got any theories?

  2. Leonard Kirk’s leaving? Did I miss this announcement? I thought he was going to do Supergirl and JSA concurrently.
That stinks, because I thought he set such a high bar for the art on the book.
Can’t wait to read what you have planned for the faithful Mr. David, should be quite a ride.

  3. Faaantastic. As much as I’ve enjoyed the current storyline, I tend to enjoy Mr. David’s paradigm shifts more than anything. I’m sure this will rule.

  4. Sorry to hear that Leonard is leaving — I very much enjoy stable creative teams with the opportunity to craft stories beyond the 4-6 issue “arc.”

Highly demanded storyline? Return of someone special?

    Hmm, how about . . . . Streaky?

Off the topic, Peter, I love Soulsearchers and Company (and the other Claypool books). Good work!

  5. It’s definitely a pity to see Leonard Kirk leaving Supergirl. I, too, was under the assumption he was going to be doing both JSA and Supergirl. Ah well… At least he’s still on a good book. But who is going to be taking over the regual art chores of Supergirl now??? Better be someone dámņ good, they’ll have one heck of a time following Kirk.

  7. The only highly demanded story I can think of is the one everyone else seems to be referring to…

  8. Gah! Only just found out you HAD a website, PAD.

Anyway, I have no idea what the new storyline will be, but I’ll be there reading it, even if I have to bum all the issues off KET… 🙂

  9. Ummm, is the ‘someone special’ Kara of Argos City from the Aliens/Superman crossover?

And has someone else been asking for her to become a part of DC’s offical continuity besides me?

    I had no idea I wasn’t alone.
    I feel warm and snuggly.

I certainly hope the rumors are true (I’d like her to be around forever ~ in the Legion, though).

Except for the rumor that DC is just going to ‘yank our chains’ and kill her off or something at the end.
    sigh
That’s what they did with the Dove, anyway.
I’d hate for the same thing to happen to Kara.
