Congrats to Cubs fans

I have to admit, I was rooting for the Cubbies. Over a century between World Series wins? Enough is enough. And God, that was a helluva game. One of the best 7th games ever.

  1. Thanks, Peter, that’s very gracious. Between you and the outcome of Game 7, I *might* finally be able to forgive the Mets for 1969. 🙂

  2. Totally off-topic but…

Something seems off with the formatting of the site. Older posts strip out the text box, putting just black text on top of the background image.

On another board, I recently linked to the classic “Alien 3, People Nothing” BID repost, and got feedback that they couldn’t read it. I came poking around and that’s what I found.

  3. My grandfather was born in Illinois in 1922. He has been a die hard Cubs fan since selling alcohol in the U.S. was illegal.

When they were last in the World Series, he was out of the country on a little known military exercise called World War II(okay, the war was over, but he hadn’t been discharged yet). He heard about the loss 2 days after the game ended

He kept the faith strong even after he moved to Detroit.

This year, two months after being diagnosed with stomach cancer, he finally got to see a Cubs win in the World Series. All this after almost a century of loss, and choke and off-seasons.

That first base tag was one hëll of a moment for my family.

How is that for a baseball story?

  4. Thanks PAD. I grew up in a place were there was no local MLB team. I had 3 choices: the Cubs on WGN, the Braves on TBS and the Mets on WWOR. I choose the cubs because the broadcasters. Harry Caray made it an emotional roller coaster. I never played baseball as a kid so I learned the rules of baseball from Steve Stone. The Cubs and Star Trek were the two things the whole family watch together. Last week was awesome. My second teams are the Mets because I lived in NY for a while and it is were my kids were born.

  5. Thank you, Peter. As a Cubs fan of 32 years, it’s nice to see we can agree on something. I was converted to a Cubs fan at the tender age of twelve after watching something that went down in history as “The Sandberg Game” at a friend’s house only a couple blocks away from Wrigley. It’s been wonderful to see the love poured out for my team even from fans of our rivals like the Mets and Cards. In an election season full of unprecedented hate from all sides of the election, the near unity in joy for my team gives me a glimmer of hope.

    Once again, thank you.
