NO JUSTICE IN THE WORLD

Well, now that DC’s announced it, I can talk about YOUNG JUSTICE going away. Which is obviously upsetting for me, considering it’s pretty much the best selling title I’m writing.

I know some creators can’t wait to announce a title of theirs being cancelled. I’m not one of them. I’m just not real big on spreading around bad news. And I’m actually somewhat surprised how depressed I am about this, considering originally I only committed to doing six issues. But I’ve grown very attached to the kids.

What caused YJ to go away, despite healthy sales? The “Teen Titans” animated series. Ironic, I know, considering I wrote an early verison of that series bible (although I’ve since learned that the version which got the series green lit didn’t feature any of the work I did on it. And since I don’t want to claim credit for stuff that other people did, I figured I should set that record straight.) The moment the “TT” series got the go-ahead, DC decided to scuttle YJ so they could produce a “Teen Titans” comic more evocative of the forthcoming cartoon…which I did my original work on because they wanted it to be in the spirit of YJ.

So why wasn’t I then asked to write the new TT comic? Well, come on: Who relaunches a new comic series with the same characters and the same writer? That trick never works.

I suppose what I regret the most was, when “Impulse” and “Superboy” were both canceled, I was going to have free rein with the characters. I could do anything I wanted with them since YJ had become their home book. And now I won’t have the chance to do them.

And I’m also going to regret not working with Todd Nauck anymore. In this day and age when artists ricochet from book to book and get “hot” that way, Todd stayed with the book from start to finish and only got better and better…and less and less heralded simply because he remained in one place. Just like Leonard Kirk. Many fans gripe about the transience of artists, but then take artists (and books) for granted when the creative team remains for year after year. Kind of a mixed message there.

YJ wraps with #55. Fortunately enough, I’ve known about this for a long enough time that I can pull everything together in a four part storyline that brings to a head several main subplots. In short: Secret goes off the deep end. Darkseid recruits her. The Wonder Girl/Superboy percolating romance is finally addressed. Red Tornado returns. Harm returns. Slo-Bo makes a shocking revelation. Lotsa neat stuff. My thanks to the longtime YJ fans who have supported the book…and my regrets that I couldn’t do more to keep the series around.

In the meantime, I’ve got several new projects in the hopper. I’ll announce them as soon as the contracts are signed.

  1. This is just really sad to hear. YJ’s been one of my favorite titles. I happened to see the news from a link, with this sinking feeling when I didn’t see your name on the mini-series to relaunch.. then blossoming into a deep sigh as I saw your name not on the Teen Titans title. Then a fast check on Outsiders’ creative team in hope that you were just shuffling titles, but hopes were dashed, and so I came to see if you’d commented yet.

I was really looking forward to what you could do with the cancelled pair of Superboy and Impulse as well, since I’d been more interested in both of them in Young Justice than their own titles. (Impulse I liked at first, but at some point it just sort of drifted…) The team dynamics in YJ were just great, building a very good feel of successors and new generations coming together.

This was probably my favorite DC book out there, since it was a part of the ‘generational’ feel I enjoy with DC. JSA, JLA, Titans, and then Young Justice.. so it’s fairly darkly amusing that then the last two are cancelled to half merge, half respin both. And even moreso that I’d be enthused for the new TT title if only it weren’t taking away what you’ve been working wonderfully on. (I’m a Raven fan, and’ve missed her.)

It’s all a strong pity.. it really was a great title, with a lot of spirit behind it. I’m really interested in the last few issues from that description, though. And thanks to you for giving us what you could. Looking forward to what you come up with next.

  2. This is truly sad news. I wasn’t a fan of the art in the book originally, but Todd certainly improved exponentially and made the book a DEFINITE MUST READ, with Peter’s wonderful writing being the only reason I picked it up in the first place.

Peter, Todd, I’m going to miss this book. the humor, the character development, the action… it never failed to impress.

I’ll follow through to the bitter end, good sirs. Give us the best ending in comics history!

    Jeremy

  3. Well, Peter, that is probably the worst thing ever. I’ve been reading YJ since #1 (earlier, if you count World W/O Grownups and Girl Frenzy!: The Secret, but you didn’t write either of these, so they aren’t relevant here), and, in spite of a few aspects I didn’t care for (mostly the way the story kind of dragged for a few issues after Our Worlds at War and the handling of the election — not to mention the outcome), I still rush to the comic shop the first Wednesday of each month.

I’ve always respected you as an author (I still credit you with the best Lobo story ever – Aquaman #4), but when I started reading YJ, I became drawn into the life of a Peter David fan, and even without YJ, I’ll always have that. I’ve loved Robin, Superboy, and Impulse since they all premiered, and had been waiting for the team book with those three since about 1994. If it hadn’t been you writing it, I probably wouldn’t be as upset because Robin, Superboy and Impulse are making the transition to the TT book.

I just don’t know, though. I’m not nearly as familiar with the writings of Geoff Jones. I consider you the best character writer in the industry (and I mean that — though I am sucking up. See below), the only writer capable of writing any pre-existing character exactly the way they would speak and act if written by their creator. I’m not sure I trust anybody to handle these characters like you have for the last four years. Anyway, I am anxiously awaiting your next project, and I hope that Arrowette, Empress, Slo-bo, and all the other YJ cast members you created or made your own remain in the fore of continuity.

The strange thing is that this information went from a rumour discounted as false on the YJ Message board to actual news, and it was announced only a couple of days after I’d gotten fed up with the comics industry as a whole and drafted a petition intended to expand the comics audience and get the people in charge to listen to the fans in at least some ways. Even if I get a lot of signatures, I don’t know what I expect to happen, but there’s not much that wouldn’t be an improvement.

    It’s located at: http://www.petitiononline.com/Nekouken/petition.html

The first step is to get signatures, and I’d be honored to have yours, Peter, if you find this cause a worthy one.

This goes for the rest of you, too. We need signatures, and we need exposure, and maybe things like this will stop happening when the fans object. Please lend your support.

  4. It’s sad to see the characters go. After a while, it starts to feel like breaking off a long-term relationship…I can only do it so many times, man. I had a great thing with the Spider-Man 2099 cast. I shared some good times with Bombshell and Spyboy. I still miss Banner. Now this…

Sigh…well. Looking forward to buying PAD’s upcoming projects.

  5. When this series started, I was only sort of interested in it. It was about a bunch of kids that I really wasn’t interested in. The artwork didn’t grab me. Only continued to read it because of the writer.

Time passed. I started to like the characters. I started to like the art. And I still liked the writer. I’m going to miss Young Justice. Since you’re now freed up a bit a DC.. they going to give you another title?

I’d like to see you on Batman. Or possibly Wonder Woman. Then you’d still be able to do stuff with Robin or Wonder Girl. I think you could do a good Batman and surprise folks.

  6. Hey PAD, I’m really shocked and about this. As you said, YJ had really solid sales even though they weren’t setting records. Most books flop fast in this day and age, but not YJ. It seems a shame to cancel it for a media tie-in. It makes sense though, John Stewart is back, Black Canary is supposed to get younger somehow in Birds of Prey, there are several Superman projects coming up upexploring his youth. All TV tie-ins.

The good part is that Geoff Johns is an amazing team writer. But you will be missed, PAD.

My dream project for you to write would be the original Captain Marvel at DC. Please note people that I said this is my dream project and not perpetuate rumors on this. I accidentally got involved in the previous rumor about this when I said on the DC message boards that it would be really cool and a briliant marketing strategy on DC’s part if PAD wrote SHAZAM! Next thing I know its being reported as fact on websites. Sorry about that by the way, even if it wasn’t intentional.

  8. Hey PAD! Long time reader from Spain here.

This piece of news is one of the saddest I’ve ever heard. YJ was my favourite title, one of the first I started collecting from DC via Previews since the #1.

I loved your writing and Todd’s art (I thought it was great from the beginning, and now it’s even more impressive).

If they ever try to relaunch “Impulse”, please I BEG YOU, apply for the job. It was the best character of the book (and that’s saying something in my opinion).

Hope you get new projects soon, I’ll waiting for them.

    Adi

  9. That makes me very sad. I’ve enjoyed that series a whole lot. One of the two pieces of original art I own is from YJ! I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for your next gig.

  10. Ive been reading YJ since the beginning. I was 15 when it was still JLA Jr., by Todd Dezago

but i have so many questions about this cancellation…

Mostly about whether you had talked to Geoff Johns, what TAN (Todd Nauck) has to say about it. do you plan to write any specials or miniseries with Empress, Slobo, Secret or Cissie?

    take yourself easy

    -Gil

  11. This is really sad news. I guess it just means that we’ll have another under-appreciated book run to talk about on message boards for years to come.

I haven’t looked forward to a book on a monthly basis like YJ for a long time. I liken it to the Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire Justice League’s. This is by far one of the strongest books DC has on the shelves.

Looking forward to see those plotlines come to a head.

  12. Well, it was nice while it lasted. The good news is that we will see some new PAD stuff. maybe some more SpyBoy ?

  13. PAD, i cannot tell you how heartbroken i am. YJ was THE title that sparked my passion for comics. your writing, Nauck’s pencils, Stucker’s inks, you are my all-time favourite creative team. in the matter of two years, i have amassed the entire collection from the two-issue World’s Finest event with Robin and Superboy to present (all except the TPB of the first seven issues), as well as a decent amount of Impulse’s title and a start on Robin’s. in all, i have well over 200 comics from only two years! all thanks to the joy of Young Justice and the hilarity you brought to the comic world of DC teens.

your stories have made me fall in love with the characters as well. it breaks my heart that Secret is joining Darkseid. but if any writer can do that to Secret and it be okay by me, it is you. and i am a little scared about what will come of Slobo, another character i absolutely love. i hope he does not dissappear from DC. Robin and Impulse have become two of my favourite comic characters overall. the team dynamics were so great, and you handled all the characters beautifully. i particularly enjoyed the extra issues between each other and their lives outside the team that the teen heroes had to deal with. i guess i am a sap for romance and real-life hardships.

when i heard that YJ was being discontinued, i, too, hoped you and Nauck would be moving to one of the new titles. again, i met with disappointment. i eagerly wait to see where you will be going next. YJ made me eternal fans of you and Nauck. no one will be able to raise a pen to your work with these teens together.

  14. While YJ was one of the can’t-miss titles I always picked up and KNEW I would enjoy, I’m not so much saddened by its loss as a book than I am for your relatively small loss of revenue stream and visibility. Oh, you’ll bounce back, but I tend to follow WRITERS rather than CHARACTERS. Odd, to be true, in this business of neverending “To Be Continued”s where a character is the driving force: Sure, the soap opera is good, yeah–but what’s Batman doing these days? Who’s Wolverine beating up?

As an example, my two favorite comic book characters of all time are the Jack Knight Starman and Spider Jerusalem. But I would not want to read the further adventures of these characters if they were not written by James Robinson and Warren Ellis.

(Well, if Alan Moore or someone similar decided to have a go, MAAAYYYBE …)

No matter the good work done on him by Baron and Messner-Loebs, I don’t really want to read a Wally West Flash book not written by Mark Waid.

When you went off Aquaman, a character who before you had stagnated into a second-stringer somehow still playing with the big guns, I went off it as well, even though I like Dan Jurgens and Rick Veitch, he was yours.

I MAY read Winick’s book that’ll spring from this turnover, but I won’t read the Titans book, even though I enjoy Johns’ work. It just won’t be what I want to read.

And I look forward to seeing what your next projects would be.

  15. Nooooooooooooooo!

This is the worst comics news since the cancellation of Impulse. I have been following Young Justice since issue #3, and it was one of the titles which got me back into buying comics again. The YJ board on the DCMBs was one of the reasons why I started posting there. (Hi Nekouken.)

This is a sad day for fans of fun comics.

Thanks for everything PAD. It was a great ride while it lasted… I’m still buying CM and Supergirl though, so at least my monthly PAD fix isn’t quite gone…

  16. A few things come to mind upon hearing this news:

First, it’s quite typical that DC would cancel a book based on some mainstream exposure of characters. I mean why not just retitle the series “Teen Titans” start from #1, and let PAD continue his stories? I’m reminded of when they ruined Aquaman simply to have Erik Larsen art on the covers.

Second, if Captain Marvel ends up not being continued after issue 6, PAD will only have ONE comic on the market: Supergirl. Unless, of course, DC and WB decides a new Supergirl series on the WB would be great, except she can’t fly and won’t be invulnerable and won’t have TK blasts and fights vampires and looks like Sarah Michelle Gellar. Then, of course, they have to relaunch the comic.

I’m sorry the series is ending, and I look forward to reading PAD’s future work.

  17. I’m truly sorry to hear this news. It was YJ that started my comic collection. Up to that time, I’d only bought the occasional one-shot or short run series. But YJ started me off on a comic-collecting frenzy from two of my favorite writers, and I haven’t stopped since. Don’t intend to start now. You write it – I’ll buy it. Upward and onward.

(For those wondering, JMS is the other writer I buy regularly.)

  18. PAD,

    This just plain sucks!!!!

I am sorry that this happened to you and to us. I for one cannot wait to hear your new projects.

Hope all is well with you and your family

    Jim

  19. This took me by surprise too. After seeing how Green Lantern was not only exploited for a very one-sided agenda, but also had John Stewart brought in at the end of the last story arc in a guest role to coincide with his role on the JLAdventures cartoon, it appears that DC may have begun to commit some of the same errors as Marvel did when they ludicrously altered the X-books to resemble the movie as much as possible, a movie that, I might add, committed some of the same mistakes as Amazing Spider-Man 36, and which I’ve come to the conclusion was truly overrated.

I do like Geoff Johns’ work very much, and I think that he can pull off some very good work on it too, but even so, DC is still committing some very outrageous mistakes all for the sake of “coinciding” with TV and movie shows, which can very seriously damage the quality of the book.

You know what I think you could do now though, and that I’m hoping you’ll do? You could try to propose a revival of Impulse’s book, and focus on his growing up, and trying to get a good focus on what this wacky world of ours is like. Could you do that? And if you could, in the future, could you try and win the spot in writing the JLA, and “New” X-Men too?

I wish you good luck in trying that out.

  20. This is a horrible way to start a Monday.

I got back into reading comics about 2 years ago after a hiatus of almost 10 years. When looking for books to read, a friend recommended Young Justice. The name and concept sounded almost absurd to me. But I started reading it. Then bought as many back issues as I could find until I had it all. This book tended to find its way to the top of my stack.

I, for one, love when a creative team stays on a book for a long time or for the entire run (though I can live with the artist changing much more than the writer). You get to see more subtle character development that way. And the foreshadowing obviously has a chance at being less contrived.

I’m really going to miss this book. I’m interested to see what Johns will do with the characters (though I’ll miss Empress SO much), but I’d really rather YJ stuck around. The writing… the art… even the sales… it was all there.

And I won’t even start on having a hack like Winnick writing the death knell for the team. That just hurts.

  21. Shoot. This sucks. I mean, first Superboy now YJ. And the worst part…Young Justice was doing well. I’m glad that I’ll get to see some of the team, but it irks me soo much that yet again Dc are screwing over their current fan-base to try and draw in new readers. They’ve cut down a really cool comic as what, a marketing ploy. Sheesh. Mr. Nauck, Mr. David, and Mr. Stucker I’m really really sorry, you guys were awesome!

    Mike

  22. ARGH! URGE…TO…DESTROY… STUFF… RISING!!!!

That is the STUPIDEST reason to cancel a book. They’ll regret this cause that Teen Titans book will have really poor sales… I’ll make sure i don’t buy it…

Now, there’ll be NO Impulse … I’ve read YJ since #1 … and now, joy has left the building 🙁

  23. I’m really sorry to hear about this. You and Todd have been doing a great job on YJ, making it one of my favorite books.

The bad part about this is that if the toon tanks, DC’ll probably ditch the book as well. Sure, TV gets more of an audience, but tailoring your output to match that of another medium doesn’t really speak well for long-term success.

  24. Horrible news!

The really bad part is I just recently started reading YJ again. I had to quit for a while due to college (ie being broke) and honestly losing interest for a while. After getting back on board I’ve been collecting back issues (sure wish there was a few more trades) and new issues and loving them.

    Now this happens! *sigh*

    -dave

  25. Another
    COMMENT:

Wasn’t Young Justice named and produced mainly to mooch off JLA sales? I recall an original name being JLA Junior, in fact.

Now it’s being canned and a new book is being released to mooch off the teen titians cartoon.

I suppose it makes sense in DC’s thinking. What I don’t understand is why not leave the two books as they are (Titans and Young Justice) and simply launch a Teen Titans animated book to go along with the cartoon?

It just doesn’t make sense to me that, in a market where sales are flat, you would cancel a book that is doing a good job making money.

    -dave

  26. PAD, Guys…

    I’m just cranky….

I’m sad and upset with DC. I mean everything can be destroyed just because they wanna make some profits from outisde.

YJ was definetely one of my favorite titles, and the second original american book that I started to pick regulary, right after Titans.

I loved the book, because it was about characters that I cared, and a chance to see lotsa of them together, without spending too much on each solo title (as I ‘m used to say living outside North AMerica limits is pretty hard, and with the few problems we’ve had nere in Brazil, it’s even worse now). I loved the book, because it reminded me of the Titans old days, but with totally different dinamic. It kinda compesated a few of the things that was lacking in the current incarnation of the team.

I’m not only mourning the loss of YJ but also the end of Titans. Yes, the current book was never on the standards of the old WOlfman days, but sometimes, a tiny drop of old days emerged.

I think Judd is a nice writer (love to re-read his Pedro & Me everytime I’m kinda depressed), Geoff is one of my fave writers. But sincerely I just hated the new directions (the mix up just doesn’t sound that cool for me). And I’ll really miss Todd, PAD and also Kitson over the Titans book.

Just wanted to share my feelings.

So, PAD besides Supergirl (which I still enjoys a lot) and Captains Marvel, what will you be up to next?

    Johny

  27. Yesturday was a bad day for me. I hear the news that one of my favorate titles is going to be cancelled and one of my favorate tv writers, Hilary J. Bader, had died. I’m still reeling from the news. It made me question my purchasing habits. Young Justice consistanly has been a great reading experience for me virtually month after month. I even by a second reading copy sometimes. To think DC is going to take this away from me just because they want a tie in for a cartoon I’m really not excited about has me pìššëd øff to no end. There is serious consideration on my part to cut back on a lot of the titles I’m purchasing because of this. Mr. David, you are one of the main reasons I am still collecting comics today and to take this title away from you with no choice makes me prioritize who has provided me with great reading and who are the latest fly in the pan. I’m glad that you have some new projects in development because if Marvel and DC take away your respective titles, then my local comic retailer will be depressed as well.

  28. I can only echo the disappointment of the other folks on here. It’s a real shame to have the book be folded because of the show coming out. As someone pointed out, YJ really fit in to the whole “generational feel” of the DCU, which I think is one of the company’s greatest strengths. I haven’t heard anything (aside from what I’ve read here) about the series (one? two?) that will be “replacing” YJ. Frankly, whatever it will is going to be a letdown in my eyes. Way to shoot something that people love in the knee just to do a tie-in on a show that will probably only have a life of two or three years, and we’ll have to “rebuild” all over again.

  29. Aw, Peter, I’m really sorry to hear about the cancellation, even though it’s been in the wind for some time now.

Any chance we could get one last cameo by The Mighty Endowed, though? Or are my hopes going to go bust one more time?

    JSM

  30. Man, this really bites. Todd Nauck has become one of my favorite artists and this was one book I could always look forward to. I’m not even slightly interested in Teen Titans if it isn’t written by PAD.

I’d read the rumors but dismissed them: Young Justice is too good a book to cancel. Grrrr. I hate being wrong on something like this.

  31. This is really too bad. Young Justice was a really fun, funny, unique comic book. It found its own identity despite being thought of by many as a rehash of the old Teen Titans or a Junior Justice League title. Now they can’t even lay claim to that sense of identity because most of the characters are going over to Teen Titans. This book involved some really great concepts. What other comic would include a silent issue, an issue written as poetry and an election for a new leader that is voted on by the readers all in the same series. It won’t be the same without these characters being Young Justice. Thanks for all your work on the book, Mr. David.

  32. Being a freelancer is a frustrating and often sucky experience (I know this first-hand, being “married to it”). I’m sorry to hear this confirmed, Peter, and hope that both you and my husband find new books soon!

    – Elayne

  33. Wherever your new endeavors lead you, Mr.David… i’ll be there ready and reading.

Here’s to another great run! Kudos!

  34. ARE THESE PEOPLE INSANE?

I just want to know. I want to know who really is brain dead and who is just a retard at Marvel and DC.

Let me see if I get this right; they take a current, well selling book, and they cancel it – so that they can TAKE A CHANCE ON A NEW BOOK that they have NO IDEA of in real sales. Just potential… and in a soft comic market.

Obviously I must have missed something in the few economics classes I took. I used to think that when something was selling, and one wanted to make money – ONE KEPT SELLING IT.

Ah, dámņ. Mr. David, you did an ongoing splendid job in Young Justice, and it was always the first or second book on top of my stack. I will miss it immensely; I’ve been talking it up to anyone who’s been asking about new books to start reading. No point to it now…

And I have to laud you and Mr. Nauck in getting a book out monthly for fifty-five issues (plus “Sins of Youth”) in an era when three books on time in a row is a miracle, and writers and artists just don’t stay on a title more than a year.

Man, I’m depressed. I wish that those blockheads at DC were here; I’d like to give Levitz a piece of my mind. I mean, by their logic, as soon as “Justice League” was scheduled to air, DC should have canceled JSA and Doom Patrol and Legion and YJ and any other book that featured a team – because it would distract from the lustre of Justice League. (Don’t get me wrong – I love that cartoon. But it hasn’t influenced my comic buying an iota.)

Well, let me say congrats on a great run; you handled the charcters beautifully, with great humor and great drama, and I will be hard pressed to find anything of this quality. Thanks for a great book!

  35. I’ve just been informed on the DCMB that the quote is “Curse you, Teen Titans!” I was at work and couldn’t check my back issues… Then again the fact I am posting here and on the DCMB while at work makes me wonder how I stay employed in the first place…

  36. PAD, I have to admit that I stopped reading YJ around issue 20 and picked up Supergirl instead. Nonetheless, I understand the YJ readers’ frustrations over this turn of events. You seem to be taking this one very well (or as well as can be expected). To echo what others have said, I think it stinks. You are an extremely talented individual with a unique voice. I look forward to your next project in comics. As a personal request and in light of your excellent handling of Mary Marvel, would you consider writing the Marvel family for DC? Of course, this is assuming that DC wants to relaunch that title.

Again, this is crap. Best wishes sir.

    –Michael

  37. Several people have mentioned Peter’s only other comics currently being Captain Marvel and Supergirl. Remember, he also does Soulsearchers and Co. from Claypool.

Sorry about the loss of YJ, looking forward to hearing what the new contracts are for.

  38. Ðámņ, I can’t believe this.

I mean, I can understand DC wanting to rename the title Teen Titans to mesh with the cartoon, but why God why are they giving PAD the boot? I mean, they want Teen Titans to be in the spirit of Young Justice. PAD IS Young Justice, and with all due respect to Geoff Johns and his ability of a writer, there is no way they will be the same without him. PAD is a truely unique writer who wit is unparalleled in the industry.

This is turning out to be horrible year for me in the comics world. Counting the possibility of the cancilation of Captain Marvel with that stupid U-Decide stunt, this marks the cancelation of my favorite three comics (sorry PAD, the other one isn’t Supergirl). I have been a long time Marvel reader, only recently been drawn to DC because of my growing animosity towards the current administration at Marvel coupled with PAD’s talents as a writer that got me into Young Justice. However, this latest stunt proves to me that DC is no better than Marvel.

If things keep up like this, the industry will drive away what few fans that have left.

  39. PAD,

This news totally bites. I’m one of those guys that follows writers rather than artists or characters, so I buy pretty much everything that I find with PAD’s name listed as author. I love YJ, a consistently entertaining comic, and my wife recently started reading it as well – pretty amazing since she doesn’t like superheroes, and it’s now one of her favorite books. I gave her one issue to read and she was immediately hooked and promptly read the previous 40+ issues in one sitting. She was pretty upset when I passed on the news. I love Geoff Johns’ writing, but what I want to read is the YJ gang written by PAD.

Peter, thank you for sharing your great stories of these characters with us. You actually got me to like Cassie and Kon-El – pretty amazing feat there, plus I love how you handled everyone else.

I hope those rocket scientists at DC let us keep Supergirl for a while longer.

What a crappy way to start the week… Bah.

  40. Crap. What’s with this year? First Superboy, now Young Justice? I collected YJ since issue one and have always relied on it to distract me from the seriousness of the other mainstream titles. Hëll, it was the only maintream comic that got a laugh out of me. Luckily for PAD there’s Supergirl and CM, but I wonder what Todd Nauck will be doing in the future? He’s a great artist so I hope some other mainstream title picks him up. I’ll continue YJ to the very end.

  41. PAD I must say I am very bummed… YJ and Impulse are the only 2 comics I have every issue for from beginning to end… When the cancelled Impulse I took solace in the fact that YJ was still around… Now they are both gone and I can hardly beleive it… The team as it is will be missed as will you and Todd… I’ll be watching for any future projects of yours… Good luck…

  42. Peter,

I’m very sorry to hear this. I’ve very much enjoyed Young Justice. Even if I originally expected it to feature the childhood of John Tensen(I think .. it’s been years since I read thea New Universe series).

Good luck with your new proposals. I look forward to buying comic books written by you for a long time, so I hope the various publishers cooperate.

I would like to echo the comments of Tom Galloway for anyone who didn’t notice – Peter DAvid also writes a book for Claypool Comics called SOULSEARCHERS AND COMPANY. It’s good, buy it.

  43. Deh. Just…Deh.

I hate this. Reading YJ every month is my favorite part of reading comics…

Not only do I enjoy everything Mr. David writes, I love Nauck’s art…(as it is the closest thing to Egeland I can find) and the book has always been the perfect mix of humor, fun and then BOOM…jaw dropping scenes that pull everything in.

We’ve all been following YJ for so long it just doesn’t seem fair.

    Hëll, it isn’t fair.

But what will be done will be done.

I can’t stand Geoff Johns. Ugh.

Makes me sick to think about it.

Mr. David, can’t wait for what’s next…and uh…when is part 2 of Being Human coming out?

  44. I have mixed feelings about this. I regret that Peter will miss working with characters to which he has become attached, to some which he has created, and other established characters to which he has added so much. I looked forward to his new free reign on Superboy and Impulse and to seeing the new ideas he had for them.

On the other hand I’m looking forward to the new projects that this will free Peter up to write (Hopefully more frequent New Frontier novels). I also have to admit that I’m looking forward to the new Teen Titans series since I enjoy all of the characters involved, the creative team, and the design of the characters that I’ve seen posted (Impulse’s Kid Flash costume, Superboy’s new look, leaving Starfire’s “costume” the same).

And, Peter, before you wrap the series on Young Justice, how about a scene with the rest of the “Young Justice” cast giving Robin the evil eye after lamenting the cancellation of “their series” as you had Ray, Impulse, and Superboy do a few months back.

  45. I wouldn’t doubt that would be an idea on PAD’s mind Bob. It would be a nice way to finish off the series.

  46. Frankly, I think this Titans cartoon like the Titans comic the last couple years stinks. Yes, I think that Geoff Johns could save it, but so could PAD. I guess I can finally say that unlike the Justice League one, I really don’t want to see the Titans cartoon. It just smacks of disrespect for the fans of these characters. It does really suck that we can’t have all three of these comic books, but at least Peter got to write an ending to his run. Thanks for all the fun, PAD. and good luck on your next comics.

  47. >>Who relaunches a new comic series with the same characters and the same writer? That trick never works. –PAD

Uh, isn’t that what happened regarding CAPTAIN MARVEL? 😉

Until Superboy screams “I’ll f— ’em sideways and scream ‘Easter Sunday!’ “- make mine PAD!

  48. Hey Peter,

When I saw the announcement about YJ getting cancelled, I have to say I’m a bit upset. You’re right in that you’ve really grown into these characters, because they’ve developed into who they are on the strength of your portrayal of them.

I still proudly hold onto my original issues of YJ, because it was one of the best books being sold on the shelves today.

It’s just sad to see DC is cancelling a book because of needing a TV show tie-in. They’ll probably launch an animated book on it anyways, so why even bother changing things?

Anyways, at least you’ll get to wrap it up in style, and I’ll be picking up the book till the end.
