First of all, I want to thank my lovely wife for filling in so far. She’s done a terrific job.
Second, I think it is amazing to see the outpouring of support and good wishes for my recovery. I never expected anything like this to happen to me. Who would? Nevertheless, I’m down here in Jacksonville at a hospital that specializes in putting people like me back together again. Every day is filled with all types of physical therapy dedicated to enabling the right side of my body to converse with the left side once more. I have no idea what to expect of my physical abilities the day I walk out of here (or get wheeled out of here) in mid-February. But I am certainly hoping for the best.
Saturday and Sunday are generally very quiet days. Gives me time to work and to reflect upon everything I’m dealing with. This is unlike anything I have ever had to handle in my life. There are days that I really don’t want to think about what I have to face. But I feel like it’s my job to keep as positive an attitude going as is humanly possible. I owe that to my family and friends.
Thank you for all your support.

It’s GREAT to hear from YOU! You da man, man! LOL! We’ve got your back out here, buddy; just keep on keepin’ on… We know you’re in good hands down there in Jax-(my old stompin’ grounds…) My dad worked in the, now-Well’s Fargo building downtown. Kathy has been doing yeoman work keeping all of us updated… She deserves some kind of award, I think… 🙂 After reading yesterday’s update, my daughter and I went to the bookstore in your honor; Barnes and Noble had nothing of your other works, Sir. I wanted to get a copy of “Sir Apropos…”, or the “Pulling Up Stakes” books. Was highly disappointed… I must say, AGAIN-Thanks, for “Pulling Up Stakes”… I have not laughed so hard in a LONG time. It’s brilliant… You rest and recover; we’ll send positive vibes, and-READ!

It’s great to see you posting here! I hope your recovery goes well. I don’t comment much but I always read your blog. I hope to see you at a convention panel again. My wife and I discovered you at DragonCon one year just based on your reputation as a great comic book writer. We both just loved your panel with readings. Get well soon!
Glad to see you doing as well as you are at this point.
Grabbed Pulling Up Stakes 2 a couple of weeks ago by the way. Fantastic read. Snagged the Fables story and the two After Earth stories as well. Looking forward to reading them this week.
It’s great to see you upbeat and posting. Just keep pushing through, and we’ll keep buying and reading your stuff–past, present, and future.
Of course we are all happy and excited to “hear” from you! Thank you for posting something to let us know how you are doing. Your wife did a wonderful job of keeping us informed, but getting an update straight from the source is even better.
We are all sending as much positive energy your way as is allowable by law and hope that you do increasingly better.
May the Great Bird of the Galaxy continue to watch over you!
HJK- just had to chime in
We all love and admire you Peter. I’m going through a pretty brutal post-op and physical therapy session, and while it is no where NEAR as intense as what you’re experiencing, it certainly keeps you on my mind. Hang on and in. Take it a day at a time. You will succeed, even if it feels unlikely, much like one of your always engaging characters. *hugs for what it’s worth* Be well, heal well; we’ve got your back.
Your attitude will go a long way to not only help your healing process but give encouragement to others who are going or who will go through strokes or brain injury. (Even when you don’t mean to, you’re doing a mitzvah. LOL)
As this happened with you away from home, do you need anything?
Hugs.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Just keep remembering that you have lots of people out here rooting for you!
Hearing that you were joking with hospital staff was a hopeful early sign that you were getting better. Very happy to hear your sense of humor and your sense of love (for your family and friends) are still around. Best of the good luck — being partly Irish, I decided at some point that it was best to *specify* good luck!

So incredibly happy to see that you are recovering!
Huge thanks to your wife for keeping us updated, and huge thanks to you for letting us into your life during this ordeal.
Welcome back! I’m glad that you’re now physically capable of typing again, so that’s a promising sign. At the risk of trivialising your condition, I remember when I swapped keyboard layout from QWERTY to Dvorak: it was really frustrating at first, because my typing speed plummeted and I had to make a conscious effort to press each key. I’m guessing that it’s similar for you, with things that you used to take for granted, but I hope that this will be temporary and you’ll be able to take them for granted again.
I had a stroke in 2011, and while I do not have full functionality, I continue to progress.
You can do this!
Sandra M. Odell
Glad to see you back in the keyboard! I guess that means you’re in the right way. Keep working on and thinking positive, man!
All the best wishes!!!
You can do it sir! Good luck and I know you will get the control you want again!
Excellent to see this post and we’re all keeping our fingers crossed to see you surrounded once again by fans, friends and editor’s all want to see and her from you. PR
I’m very happy to hear you’re doing better! Keep doing the work … it pays off. At times it’s going to seem pointless, but these physical therapists have seen it all, and they’ll steer you to the path of recovery. Move as slow as it takes, and eventually it’ll all be second nature again.
Take care of yourself … the world needs good minds these days.
This all good to hear, Peter. The very very best to you and your family.
It’s so good to have you back online, Peter! We’re all thinking about you and hoping for a complete recovery. I just bought a boatload of your newest books (and a few older ones that I somehow missed), and I’m looking forward to losing myself in them. There are few things as enjoyable as being completely immersed in a universe of your creation. Best wishes and many virtual hugs From the BC clan!
Good to hear from you, Mr. David! Btw, you have one hëll of a family!
I never knew we shared the same initials (PAD). I hope the recovery goes well. It sounds like you’re making excellent progress. All my best.
So glad to see you posting again!! Keep getting well!!
Wishing tje best to you and your family sir. Your family is always great to talk to especially at NYCC and your writing is a large part of the reason I enjoy comics to this day. Hope your recovery goes well and look forward to seeing you around again.
Hi Peter –
So great to see you are on the road to recovery! I have been following your wife’s post on your status. Know that all of your fans here in Connecticut and the whole gang here at ComiCONN are wishing you all the best!
Mr. David, your work has given me so much joy over the years, influencing my life in untold ways. Like many of your fans, I was saddened to hear the news of your stroke and have been following these updates closely. I am relieved and happy to hear of your progress thus far, and wish you and your incredible family strength in the time to come.
I just finished reading your novelisation of Astonishing X-Men: Gifted. It was fantastic; I enjoyed every chapter.
It’s great to hear from you in your own voice, Peter. We’re so glad to hear that you’re progressing so well, and we keep up on Kath’s posts. Keep up the fight. It’s a long distance, but we’re cheering for you up here. We’re looking forward to the day we see you on your own two feet again.
It’s great to hear you are doing so well. We are praying for a quick recovery for you!
I am hoping for a quick recovery, I met you in Atlanta this year at DragonCon, and you made my con
Best Wishes
Glad to hear this, Peter. My best to you and your family.
Mr.David,
I’m sure that I speak for all your readers if I say that we were shocked when we first heard the news. It’s good to read updates about your condition. Don’t worry about us, we’ll wait patiently for your recovery. We just wish the best for you and your family.
And, of course, get well soon!
Best wishes from a longtime fan
You have our stalwart support, and every expectation that you will not only recover satisfactorily, but channel this into even more powerful storytelling. Hold true, sir, half the battle is the confidence you can win.
Welcome back to your blog, PAD!
Great to see you back at the keyboard! We are all keeping you in our thoughts!
Sean
Good to hear from you. Just let us know if there’s anything you need from us to make the recovery easier / faster.
Glad to hear you’re well enough to get back on line, pal. But don’t overdo it…everything I’ve heard is that the quickest way to a setback is trying to progress too quickly!
It’s great that you’re able to write here, Peter. You and your whole clan remain in our prayers. (Also, I bought an extra copy of the Stakes books [I typed PUS books, but that’s just wrong.] for my children.)
It’s great to have you back, Peter. Godspeed!
It is so great to “hear” your “voice” again, Peter. I know I don’t have to tell you how many people there have been worldwide who are pulling for you to get through this and make as full a recovery as current medical science will allow. For every one of us who has been vocal here and elsewhere on your behalf, there are doubtless dozens more that just haven’t found the words to say so. Continued prayers and best wishes your way.
We all love you, Peter. Your writing gives us joy.
To hear from you, thank you for posting. All wishes for a speedy and full recovery. And thank you for all your work.
Kim, Denmark
Glad to hear you’re doing well, PAD!
So glad to hear your words (although your wife’s were lovely as well). Keep on truckin! Thinking of you and your family.
So glad to hear you’re getting back on your feet, figuratively if not yet literally. I’ve been a fan of yours since the first time you were on X-Factor and while I don’t know you and you don’t know me, reading your work has influenced me in both what I read and how I write. So I than you for that and wish you all the best.
So good to hear from you! I’m praying for you and for your family and everyone involved in putting you back together. I hope that you’re recovery is as swift and complete as possible.
So glad you to hear you are improving! Here’s hoping all continues to go well.
Amazed? Surprised? Why? I think you underestimate the amount of pleasure your hard work has given a great many people over the years. That they should turn around and offer support and well wishes in return seems only natural.
Glad to have your note, actually written by you. This alone says a lot about your recovery. May it continue as fast! As for being surprised … you have touched a good many of us, and in good ways. Don’t be too surprised when that makes us somewhat fond of you, or more.
We are all pulling for you, and hanging on every report. Just do what you can to get better. WHo knows what story or character bits you may get from this all! (Look for the silver lining!!)
Hang in there!
Hi Peter,
We’re all here, supporting you – in spirit and in our hearts! So many memories of the years we worked together at Marvel!
Your humor was precious, and a lifesaver….a day didn’t pass when I wasn’t laughing at one, two, three, four…..and on, of your comments on something we were dealing with.
I’ve always appreciated that time, because, personally, I really needed that dose of daily giggles more that I could explain (or confess) to anyone.
Now I’m sending this acknowledgment back to you, with a BIG hug and a very special, heartfelt THANK YOU!
Use your humor and wit….as you take these incredible steps towards a new chapter in your amazing life.
love
sandy
Keep up the great work Peter… You have a lot of people pulling for you… for both of you. Just listen to the folks, and do your best, and take the time to get well… We are all glad to hear from you again….
